Collective Soul at the 9:30 Club
On tour promoting the release of their self-titled eight album, Collective Soul made an appearance at the 9:30 Club this past week. Although they no longer have the same cache they had during the 90’s, Collective Soul showed they could still draw a crowd by selling out the 9:30 club and filling it to capacity.
It was quite a show.
Charismatic and energetic as ever, lead singer Ed Roland put on an impressive, energetic display that elicited quite a reaction from the female fans in the crowd. The crowd itself contained a certain veteran presence, evidenced by fans who mouthed words from songs made popular in the 90’s (i.e. Shine). However, the group’s recent contribution to the Twilight album had clearly made an impact, as many younger fans turned out for the show as well.
After 15 years in the business, Collective Soul have learned a thing or two about being on stage. Their performance was energetic and categorically professional – indicators of how serious the band takes their trade. At one point, Roland addressed the crowd, beckoning “buy [the new album], listen to it, illegally download it, whatever, as long as you listen to it.”
