(Heads Up via DC City Blog) – Heads Up is excited to announce the first annual College to Kids Summit on Wednesday, October 7th at American University.  The purpose of the Summit is to advance the culture of college attendance
throughout the District of Columbia by fostering a college-going culture in DC, highlighting university/K-12 partnerships, leveraging college students to promote higher achievement amongst DCPS students, and sharing tools and lessons about how community based organizations can encourage K-12 student success and college attendance.

DCPS Chancellor Michelle Rhee will kick off the Summit with a keynote address.  As an ardent proponent of college access for all DC students, Rhee’s participation in the Summit demonstrates her desire for DCPS to partner with the
community, education based advocacy organizations, and local universities to build an inclusive agenda that resolves the college access disparities for DC students. Summit participants will also have the opportunity to participate in
a variety of workshops that focus on college access tools, programs, and research.

This Summit will bring together key players in DC education with a common agenda of developing a solution to improve college access for DC public school students. Teachers, administrators, students, parents, and out of school time providers are all invited to participate in the College to Kids Summit as attendees or workshop presenters.
