Logan Tavern
When I found out that a close friend of mine and her significant other were headed into DC for the night and wanted to grab dinner somewhere near Logan Circle I instantly thought of Logan Tavern. Granted, it had been quite some time since I had visited Logan Tavern but in a relatively short amount of time it has been a reputation for being a dependable restaurant with a solid menu in the rapidly emerging Logan Circle area.
Cost – $$
Service – B+
It was not exactly slammed when we visited (on a Sunday night) so it’s difficult to fully judge the competence of the wait staff but in a controlled setting our waiter was extremely efficient. He wasn’t overtly friendly however that definitely isn’t a bad thing.
Food – C+
This rating might come as a bit of a surprise to some people and it is possible that they had an off night because I’ve really enjoyed the food at Logan Tavern in the past. That being said, I found the Wasabi Crusted Meatloaf to be bland and soggy and the clump of mashed potatoes that was dumped on the plate tasted as though it had been sitting in a vat for hours.
Decor – B
The design aesthetic in Logan Tavern is half-comfortable / half-quirky. It certainly feels more sophisticated than a typical DC pub or bar but I can’t quite express why because there is nothing distinctive about the place that sticks out in my head right now.
Feel – A-
Regardless of my perspective on the food at Logan Tavern, I will always give the place high marks for drawing a pretty cool crowd. Logan Tavern’s clientele is an eclectic mix of gays and yupsters that creates a mature yet energetic feel. It’s a place that is good for a lively weekend brunch or a more relaxed weekday dinner.
Logan Tavern is located at 1423 P St. NW. They can be reached at (202) 332-3710.
What’s the Buzz:
November 11, 2008 – Logan Tavern Unofficial Mini-Review (DC Brunch Club) – During Tropical Storm Hannah, the residents of DC still needed to be fed and god forbid I try to cook, so a friend and I braved the weather and walked from 14th and R to Logan Tavern on Pst betweeen 14th and 15th. Sister restaurant to Grillfish, The Heights and Commissary (3 doors down from LT), Logan Tavern has a great menu and their brunch menu was no different. While this is a “mini” review since there were only two of us and I didn’t take copious notes, I thought I would give you some of the highlights. Full article…
Wow! I’m shocked about the food rating. I’ve eaten there several times and always had a great meal.
I would have rated it about an A- when I ate there a couple of years ago. This time however I honestly just didn’t think it was that great.
